Sitter associated with 115 portraits
Dramatist and actor. Born in Teddington, although his first play closed after five weeks in 1920, great success followed with London Calling (1923), The Vortex (1924), and Hay Fever (1925). In 1930, the year this mask was made, Private Lives opened in London and New York. His play Blithe Spirit (1941), and the film In Which We Serve (1942) contributed to the war effort. After the war he performed his own songs in cabaret in London and Las Vegas, giving him financial security.
