Stephen Duck

(1705-1756), Poet

Sitter in 1 portrait
Duck worked as an agricultural labourer, but studied at night and began to write poetry. His poem The Thresher's Labour (1730), that depicts the toil of the labourer's life was so successful that Duck was presented to Queen Caroline.
