In the late 1940s Fry enjoyed considerable success with such mystical plays as The Firstborn (1946) and the comedies A Phoenix too Frequent (1946), The Lady's not for Burning (1949) and Venus Observed (1950). He also wrote for television and films, participating in the script for Ben Hur (1959).
