Augustus Henry Fitzroy, 3rd Duke of Grafton (1735-1811), Prime Minister

Sitter in 26 portraits
Augustus Henry Fitzroy became Prime Minister in 1768, and led an unstable Government for two years from 1768 to 1770. When this portrait was painted however his political career had just begun. As a young man of twenty he had married Anne Liddell, but the marriage was not happy.
