William Thomson, Baron Kelvin

(1824-1907), Mathematician, physicist and inventor

Professor of Natural Philosophy, Glasgow, for over fifty years and a dominant figure in nineteenth-century physics; famous for many researches, notably in electro- and thermodynamics; introduced absolute temperature scale, its unit being named in his honour.
