Arthur Koestler
(1905-1983), WriterSitter in 14 portraits
Born in Budapest, Koestler worked as a journalist and scientific editor in Paris and Berlin before settling in Britain and becoming a British citizen in 1948. Author of political novels such as Darkness at Noon (1940), of works relating to parapsychology and to biology and the history of science such as The Case of the Midwife Toad (1971).
