Vivien Leigh (1913-1967), Actress
Sitter associated with 70 portraits
Born Vivien Hartley in Darjeeling, India, and educated in England and on the Continent, Leigh made her British film debut in Things Are Looking Up (1934). Her appearance opposite Laurence Olivier in Fire Over England (1937) led to a well-publicised romance. A household name following her Oscar-winning role as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind (1939). Leigh's marriage to Olivier in 1940 placed her at the centre of British theatre.
