Admiral; entered the Navy, 1803, served in the East Indies, 1810-11, the Mediterranean, 1828-1833, and as a minister to various European countries. On the imminence of the Crimean War in 1853, Lyons was appointed second in command of the Mediterranean fleet and became commander-in-chief, 1855-58.
