Milne was the assistant editor of Punch (1906), served as a signalling officer in the First World War, and after the War wrote stage comedies. His first books for children include two volumes of verse, When We Were Very Young (1924) and Now We Are Six(1927), though he is perhaps best known and loved for his stories about the adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
