Sir Henry John Newbolt (1862-1938), Poet

Poet and man of letters. Newbolt published his first edition of poetry while practising law. His most famous of his nautical poems 'Drake's Drum' published in Admirals All and Other Verses (1897); wrote two volumes of the official History of the Great War: Naval Operations (1923); active in public service; knighted, 1915; created CH, 1922; Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery (1928-37).
