(1498?-1567?), Esquire of the Body of Henry VIII

Sitter associated with 3 portraits
Roger was a courtier and administrator whose career centred upon service in the Tudor royal household. From 1534 he held various privileged offices at court including Esquire of the Body of King Henry VIII, Sewer of the Privy Chamber, and Carver. Rogers was also a Justice of the Peace for Dorset and Somerset and was Keeper and Master of the game of various royal parks. He was elected an MP in 1547. A Protestant, he opposed Queen Mary I's restoration of Catholicism, was accused of conspiracy, and in 1554 was sent to the Tower. On Queen Elizabeth I's accession in 1558 she appointed him her Vice-Chamberlain, Captain of the Guard, and a Privy Councillor.
