Poet and author; friend of many artists and writers of the nineties; his poetry is symbolist and fin-de-siècle in tone; published Symbolist Movement in Literature, 1899; contributed articles to various reviews, wrote plays, edited anthologies, and translated from six languages; never entirely recovered from a mental breakdown in 1908.
