Izaak Walton (1593-1683), Author of 'The Compleat Angler'

Sitter in 5 portraits
A London ironmonger, Walton made enough money to retire at fifty, and devoted the rest of his life to country pursuits, above all fishing. The Compleat Angler (1653), full of pious contentment, expresses his gentle character. He also wrote biographies of John Donne, George Herbert, Richard Hooker and Sir Henry Wotton.
