Henry Williamson
(1895-1977), Writer and journalistSitter in 6 portraits
The writer of numerous animal stories, Williamson was the author of Tarka the Otter (1927), a tale not written for children but one that rapidly became a children's classic. His prolific output includes Salar the Salmon (1935) and The Children of Shallowford (1939). Deeply affected by serving in the First World War, he became a Mosleyite in the 1930's. In the 1960s Dan Farson was his neighbour in North Devon.
