Physicist. Born in Hungary, Gabor came to England in 1933 and was Professor of Applied Electron Physics at Imperial College, London from 1958 to 1967. His work on the electron microscope led to the production of an interference pattern which he termed a 'hologram', a breakthrough fundamental to the development of holography. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1971.
