Song-writer, vocalist and bass guitarist. Born in Liverpool he was originally a member of the Beatles and subsequently leader of his own group, Wings. A seminal influence on pop culture throughout the world, McCartney is one of the most distinctive lyricists in popular music. She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand and Mull of Kintyre are among his works. More recent work includes his Liverpool Oratorio, which he co-composed with Carl Davis in 1991 and Working Classical (1999).
