Artist of 1 portrait
Born in Liverpool, McCartney reached international fame in the 1960s as a member of The Beatles, before becoming leader of the group Wings, with his first wife Linda McCartney, and later commencing on a successful solo career. McCartney is one of the most distinctive lyricists in popular music, with She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand and Mull of Kintyre among his most famous works. Outspoken vegetarian and activist, McCartney is a patron of a number of international charities. A seminal influence on popular culture, he was knighted in 1997.
