Henry Maudslay

(1771-1831), Engineer

Sitter in 4 portraits
Engineer and toolmaker; he made the first accurate industrial lathes. He began his career under Joseph Bramah, and although the two inventors worked together Maudslay is regarded as the founder of the machine-tool and mechanical engineering industry. He also improved the marine steam-engine.
