Sibley trained at the Royal Ballet School before joining the Royal Ballet in 1956 and becoming principal dancer in 1960. She has danced all the ballerina roles of the standard repertoire and created roles in Sir Kenneth Macmillan's Symphony (1963) and Manon (1974) and in Sir Frederick Ashton's The Dream (1964) and Enigma Variations (1968). After retiring from dancing she became President of the Royal Academy of Dance in 1991.
