The younger son of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales. On leaving school he spent a gap year in Australia and Africa. In 2004, he began preparing for the Regular Commissions Board (RCB) exams, which he passed. In May 2005 he entered Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to begin his training as an officer in the Army, and in April the following year he was commissioned as an army officer. He held the rank of Captain in The Household Cavalry (Blues and Royals) and trained as an Army Air Corps Helicopter Pilot. In early 2008, he served with NATO forces in Afghanistan. He co-founded the charity Sentebale, which helps children in Lesotho, and is the Founding Patron of the Invictus Games, an international adaptive sporting event for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women, both serving and veterans. In 2018 he married Meghan Markle at St George's Chapel, Windsor and they became known as The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They have two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess announced that they were stepping back as senior members of The Royal Family in January 2020 and later settled in California. That same year they launched the Archewell organisation focusing on non-profit activities through the Archewell Foundation and creative media projects.
