Born Charlotte Mary Waddington in Leicester, Mary Stott was a journalist and columnist on the Women's Page of the Guardian. Succeeding Madeline Linford, who originally founded the page, as Women's Editor, she was its main contributor from 1957 to 1972, setting its unique but moderate feminist tone. She was succeeded by Jill Tweedie.
