Sitter in 8 portraits
Soloist at the Royal Ballet since 1988. At the age of twenty Bussell became the Royal Ballet's youngest ever Principal Dancer when she was selected by the great choreographer Sir Kenneth MacMillan to dance the leading role in his new ballet, The Prince of the Pagodas. Her classical repertoire includes Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. After the birth of her second daughter in 2004 she made a triumphant return to the stage with the New York City Ballet and resumed her Principal role with the Royal Ballet for the 2005 season. She officially retired as a ballerina in June 2007, and has since created a series of children's books about ballet.
