Dame Hilary Mantel (1952-), Novelist and critic

British novelist and travel writer Mantel was born in Derbyshire, and has lived and worked in Africa and the Middle East. Her novels include Vacant Possession (1986) and A Place of Greater Safety (1992). She has won the Man Booker prize twice for her historical novels, Wolf Hall (2009) and Bring Up the Bodies (2012), the first two instalments of the Thomas Cromwell trilogy.
