Arnold Bronckorst

(active 1565 or 1566-1585), Artist

Artist associated with 4 portraits
Little is known about the life of Arnold van Bronckorst. He was a painter who worked in both England and Scotland, but only a few paintings can be attributed to him with a reasonable degree of certainty. The earliest record of him is a payment for a portrait of Sir Henry Sidney, dated 1565, when he was living in London. In Scotland Bronckorst is first recorded in 1580, when he was paid by the treasury for a number of portraits. In 1581, he was appointed painter-in-ordinary to James VI of Scotland. Bronckorst moved back to London in the mid-1580s.
