Philip Jean

(1755-1802), Miniature painter

Artist associated with 8 portraits
Philip Jean initially joined the Navy, but abandoned this in favour of painting for a living. He was chiefly a miniaturist, although he also worked with oils. Jean painted portraits of many members of the royal family, amongst them the portraits of George III, Queen Charlotte, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and their children. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1787 to 1802.
