George Francis Joseph (1764-1846), Portrait and subject painter
Artist associated with 23 portraits
George Francis Joseph entered the Royal Academy schools, initially as an engraver, in 1784. He sent his first contribution to the Royal Academy in 1788, and became a constant exhibitor of paintings both there and at the British Institution. Joseph was a prolific portrait painter; his portraits in both oil and miniature are very numerous, and he also produced designs for book illustrations. He practised in London until retiring in 1836.
