Before taking up the directorship of Elliot and Fry, Herbert Lambert photographed a truly extraordinary sequence of tableaux vivants depicting the Christian nativity. The tableaux were staged in the village of Buckland Dinham in Somerset for several consecutive years after WWI and in 1920 parts of the set plus all the young performers and costumes were transported to Lambert's Bath studio. The resulting images were published in 'Bethlehem Tableaux' by Cynthia Rowena Starey.
