Benjamin Vandergucht (1752-1794), Painter and picture dealer

Benjamin Van der Gucht, painter and picture dealer, was the son of engraver Gerard Van der Gucht. He studied at the St Martin's Lane Academy and the Royal Academy schools and exhibited with the Free Society and the Royal Academy. He specialised in theatrical scenes and was patronised by David Garrick, but gave up painting in around 1787 to concentrate on art dealing and picture restoration.
