An ambitious and accomplished artist, whose work crossed the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the Aesthetic and Symbolist movements. Her work has suffered from critical neglect but her contribution to the larger Pre-Raphaelite movement is now being revalued. From a term at the National Art Training School in London she won a scholarship at the Slade School of Art. Spiritualism was the dominant motive in her art, focusing on medieval subjects and allegory. In 1877 she was invited, along with Marie Stillman to exhibit at the prestigious Grosvenor Gallery. In 1887 she married the ceramist William De Morgan. In 1902 - 1903 she exhibited in Germany and in 1906 had her first solo show in London.
