Thomas John Gullick. Born in1828 and died in 1896. His father was a bootmaker living in St James's. He married Married Mary Elizabeth Dove. in 1861 and lived in St George's Hanover Square.

Thomas John Gullick was born in 1828 in London, Middlesex. He was the only child of Thomas and Sarah Gullick and was baptised at St. James Church, Bath, Somerset, England, on 3 April 1831. His parents had relatives who lived nearby and while visiting them, they arranged for his baptism. His father Thomas Gullick was born in Messina, Sicily, Italy, as a British Subject, as was his aunty Sarah Gullick born in 1805 and his uncle Samuel Gullick, born 1810. In the 1841 Census, his father Thomas was a businessman, running a shoe manufacturing company employing ten men.
Thomas John Gullick married Mary Elizabeth Dove at St. Saviours Church, Hamstead, London on 12 December 1861 and had no children together. He died on 6 July 1895 at Turnham Green Railway Station, Marylebone, London.
Thomas was a notable artist and art critic and author and is renowned for his miniature paintings such as the one for Major General Sir Harry Wakelyn Smith Bart, Governor of Cape Colony. He also painted Mr John Timbs F.S.A. (1801-1875) author of “Curiosities of London” Who was a distant relative. He also painted a miniature 19th century portrait of Sir Fitzroy Kelly (1796-1880), an English Judge and Member of Parliament.
As an author, Thomas has been recorded as writing the ‘Outsiders;’ and the press. London 1869. A copy of which is held in The Royal Academy. He also wrote a book titled, ‘Painting Popularly Explained; with John Timbs about 1891 and a third book titled, ‘The Descriptive Handbook for the National Pictures in the Westminster Palace. London 1865.
According to the 1861 Census, taken on the evening of 7 April, Thomas lived in the civil parish of Marylebone prior to his marriage later that same year. In 1871 he and his wife lived in St. George’s Hanover Square, London, Middlesex and at the time of his death in 1895, Thomas lived at 6 Queen-Anne’s Grove, Bedford Park, Brentford, London, Middlesex.
