The granddaughter of the liberal politician Lady Violet Bonham Carter, Helena Bonham Carter was born in London and educated at Westminster School. Films include A Room With a View (1985), Where Angel's Fear to Tread (1991), Howards End (1992) and Fight Club (1999). For many years she was in a relationship with director Tim Burton and appeared in several of his films including his remake of Planet of the Apes (2001), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Sweeney Todd (2008) and Alice in Wonderland (2010). In 2010 she won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen consort of George VI, in The King's Speech.
