She took part in an expedition on Lord Moyne's Yacht, the Rosaura, in the winter of 1937 - 1938, through the Caribbean and the coast of South America, then across the Atlantic to Africa, with a trip by car from Senegal, across the Sahara, to Algeria. While on the ship, she and the eminent ornithologist Jean Delacour were the caretakers of an enormous collection of live animals, including many hummingbirds and the now extinct Little Swann Island Hutia (one of which lived at London Zoo from until October, 1939).
