Frances Louise Stevenson

(1888-1972), Secretary, mistress and later second wife of David Lloyd George, 1st Earl Lloyd-George

Sitter in 1 portrait
Lloyd George's second wife, whom he married in 1943, had been his mistress for some 30 years. Bitterly resented by the Lloyd George family, their affair was an open secret in Westminster, though unknown to the general public. Frances Stevenson was initially employed in 1913 to tutor Lloyd George's daughter, Megan, but soon became his private secretary, eminence grise and an indispensable part of his life. In 1967 she published a volume of recollections, The Years that are Past and in 1971 Lloyd George: A Diary.
