My name is Catherine Longden nee Kempton and I have a beautiful Address and Presentation to Mr W J Kempton Conductor of the Belfast Choral Association who was nephew of Dr Steggall organist and director of the choir at Lincoln’s Inn Chapel. His aunt was Maria Mendham Steggall married to Charles Steggall. William John Kempton married Margaret Birch in 1868 and named his children Sterndale Steggall. Boyce Castle Alexander McFarren. He was involved in the Midland Music Society including George Macfarren. Sir Joseph Barnby. Sir F Ouseley Dr Steggell. Mr Walter Macfarren. Sir John Stainer. Sir George Elvey. Sir Robert Stewart. Dr Wesley. Sir Arthur Sullivan. Mr Henry Smart. Mr Henry Leslie. Dr Hullah. Mr W W Pearson. Mr Brinkley Richards. Mr C E Stephens. etc etc. Mr Kempton’s first appointment was organist and choirmaster of St Luke’s King Cross which position he had to relinquish owing to the purchase of the site by the Midland Railway Co for the erection for the Hotel and Station at Euston

My name is Catherine Longden nee Catherine Kempton : William Kempton family tree daughter Maria Mendham Kempton married to Charles Steggall and there is a window in Ely Cathedral dedicated to her memory.
