He was Liberal MP for Sunderland and South East Durham, not Labour.
He was a Lieutenant-General at the time of his death on 30 December 1897.
He won the VC in 1857.
He was appointed GCB in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Honours List of June 1897.
