William Lewis Hind was born on the 15th April 1830 in the Infants School House, Papermill Rd, Carshalton, Surrey the second son of Samuel James John Hind. William started his career as a schoolmaster in Clerkenwell, London and then progressed through being a Collector for Charities associated with the Church of England, Publishing, to becoming an Art Collector and Dealer in Works of Art running his own business from his home in Sutton. He was an agent for the Art Union of London. William added to his collection of activities an estate agency - Dixon, Hind & Co toward the end of his life. He married Maria Nuthall in 1853 in St Margaret's, Westminster, London. They had 13 children. He died on the 19th January 1901 at his home Acacia Villa. Hill Rd, Sutton, Surrey.
