Sitter in 18 portraits
Born near Melbourne and renowned for her chorus songs, Forde was known as the Australian Marie Lloyd and made her first British appearance in 1897. Dressed in sequins and feathers, she led audiences in choruses of Oh Oh Antonio, Hold Your Hand Out You Naughty Boy and Down At The Old Bull And Bush. She was at the height of her fame during the war and performed songs that boosted morale, including Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag and It's A Long, Long Way To Tipperary, which was popularised by John McCormack.
