Dame Athene Donald

(1953-), Physicist

Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Cambridge, where she was awarded both her BA in Natural Sciences and Theoretical Physics and PhD in Physics. Her research focuses on soft matter physics, including polymer, biopolymers and cellular biophysics. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1999, Donald has played a significant role in promoting women's careers in science and was Cambridge University's first Gender Equality Champion from 2010-2014. Appointed DBE for services to Physics in 2010, she gained Honorary Doctorates from Manchester, Liverpool and Heriot-Watt University in 2015.
