(Arthur) Wesley Carr
(1941-2017), Dean of WestminsterSitter in 1 portrait
Carr studied Theology at Cambridge University and was ordained as a priest in 1968. Between 1974 and 1987 he was Chaplain and then Canon of Chelmsford Cathedral, leaving after nine years to become Dean of Bristol. In 1997 Carr was appointed Dean of Westminster Abbey; whilst holding this position he officiated at the funerals of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997 and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother in 2002. Carr retired in 2006.
