Cuthbert Cartwright Grundy, J.P. R.C.A. R.I. R.W.A. F.L.S. born Bury Lancs 1846, died Blackpool 1946, 4 months short of his 100th birthday. He was the 5th and youngest son of Thomas and Eliza Grundy, and was educated privately, and at Stand Grammar School, and Owens College, Manchester. Following the death of his father in 1871, he moved to Blackpool with his mother and brother John., where he took a great interest in the Unitarian Church. He was knighted in 1919. He retained an interest in his home town, and was for some years President of the Bury Society of Fine Arts, and President of the Bury Cycling Club. He made several donations of property to various children's societies in and around Bury. He began the Municipal Art Gallery in Blackpool. He retained a lifetimes interest in painting, and first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1888. He never married.
