Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer (2000-1), Secretary of State for Defence (1995-7) and Secretary of State for Employment (1994-5). Portillo writes a regular column for The Sunday Times and has featured on a number of television programmes including This Week and the Great Railway Journeys series.
