One of the best-known young British artists to emerge from Goldsmith's College in the late 1980s, Lucas exhibited in Freeze (1988) and Sensation (1997). Her first survey exhibition was at Tate Liverpool in 2005. Using photography, collage and found objects she often creates visual puns, which examine gender in a tabloid orientated society.
