William McBride (1895-1959) and James Tait McBride (1897-1963) were Cork-born brothers who joined the Royal Navy respectively in 1912 and 1915. William stayed with the navy reaching the rank of Vice-Admiral and was knighted (KCB) in 1953. James, who married Winifred Tooms in 1925, left the navy as a Paymaster-Lieutenant and practiced as an accountant at Sleaford in Lincolnshire.
They were first cousins of my late mother though a generation older. Her maiden name was Tait.
