Usha Kumari Prashar, Baroness Prashar

(1948-), Cross Bench member of the House of Lords

Born in Kenya, Prashar's family migrated to Yorkshire in the 1960s. She graduated with a BA degree in Politics from Leeds University (1970), which she followed with an MA in Social Administration from the University of Glasgow. She has held many senior positions including Director of the Runneymede Trust, Director of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations, and Chairman of the Parole Board of England and Wales. She served on the Iraq Inquiry (July 2009). She was sworn of the Privy Council the same year to facilitate access to the classified information related to the Iraq War. A member Chancellor of De Montfort University and a trustee of the Ethnic Minority Foundation. She has contributed to several publications on health and race relations.
