Her maternal grandfather was the portrait miniaturist Richard Collins (1755- 1831), who in 1783 had married Sarah Margaret(ta) Sales (1764-1788) at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster. Her mother was Collins's only child, Rebecca Ann (1786-1840), who on 19 April 1816 at St Mary's Church, Alverstoke, Hants, married by licence Post-Captain Edward Scobell RN (1783-1825) a Cornishman from Poltair House, Madron, Penzance, the son of Revd George Pender Scobell D.D., (1748-1811) and Elizabeth Stark (1745-1808).
