(James) Gordon Brown

Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010. Before becoming an MP, Brown was Rector of Edinburgh University and Chairman of the University Court (1972-1975). He then lectured at Edinburgh and Caledonian Universities, taking up a post at Scottish TV in 1980. He has been MP for Dunfermline East (1983-2015) and held the Opposition posts of Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury (1987-1989) and Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary (1989-1992), before becoming Shadow Chancellor in 1992. He was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1997 before becoming Prime Minister in 2007.
