Publisher Gail Rebuck is Chair of Penguin Random House UK. She began her career as a Production Assistant, moving to become an Editor before joining the Hamlyn Group in 1979. In 1982 she became a Founder Director of Century Publishing and was key to the company's growth. From 1991-2013 she was Chair and CEO of Random House UK. Rebuck was awarded a CBE in 2000, a DBE in 2009 and appointed a Labour Peer to the House of Lords in 2014. She founded World Book Day UK and the adult literacy charity Quick Reads, and is former Chair of the Cheltenham Literature Festival. She is a Trustee of the National Literacy Trust, a Patron of Skillset, and Pro-Chancellor of the Royal College of Art.
