Rafael Ávila

He was my great-grandfather. He was born in Russia in the imperial period and went to take refuge in Uruguay because of the Bolshevik revolution. He married twice, how second wife, Anna, was my great grandmother. He had been an industrialist, owner of a cosmetics factory, taken by the revolutionaries, but who had photography as a hobby. Ironically, he lived off photography in his years in exile. He was a friend of great artists and poets in his homeland, one of them being the renowned dancer Anna Pavlova.
