Hon. Mary Catherine Rees (née Dormer) ('MR' and 'Bint')

(1867-1943), Cartoonist for Vanity Fair

Artist associated with 6 portraits
Artist. The wife and daughter of British soldiers and colonial administrators, Rees contributed several caricatures to Vanity Fair from South Asia. On 20 February 1907, Vanity Fair caricatured her husband, saying; 'His wife, under her maiden name of the Honourable Mary Dormer, is even better known to Vanity Fair readers than her husband, for it is to her clever pencil that we owe the cartoons of her father, General Sir James Dormer, Lord Wenlock, the Maharaja of Patiala, the Gaekwar of Baroda and other excellent portraits. Not only is Mrs Rees clever and artistic; she is charming and popular, as well, which is sure to tell in favour of her husband.'
