Born in Geneva, educated at Eton 1867-71 and Pembroke College, Oxford. B.A. D.L.
Lieutenant in the Derbyshire Yeomanry Cavalry. Succeeded to the Baronetcy (but not the estates) in 1887 on the death of his cousin, the 5th Baronet of Osmaston. A Deputy Lieutenant for Derbyshire.
Started training racehorses at his estate at Binfield in Berkshire in 1908 and became a prominent and popular member of the turf as both owner and trainer. He was Master of the Bucks and Berks Staghounds from 1901 to 1908.
